The rush of the day has yet to start as random streaks of light share skin with a lover’s touch. Smiles and caresses and kisses follow. His hand tenderly cradles her breasts as she exhales. She gingerly massages his balls and shaft arousing humor and sensual tension. The sun starts losing in the competition for attention as the acts of affection become more intense and passionate. The night before may have been filled with the struggles of the world and day ahead may not be much different; but none of that matters now.

“The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” is the online tv show that follows the title character and friends as she navigates through life, love and awkward situations. ABG is also universal. It’s a series with a black female character in the lead role, but at its core, it’s about being “awkward,” which is a unifying and universal thing that we all have experienced in some capacity. The lead character, J, faces the most mundane and trivial problems, but they are problems that we all have encountered—and that’s where the humor and heart from the show originates.

Some weeks back we featured another story from Vogue Italia; it’s Tribute to Black Beauties. Featuring the photographic works of Ellen von Unwerth, it was modern, irreverent look at the beauty and glamour of fashion’s black models. Its tongue-in-cheek humor and appeal was upbeat and adorable. However, a few months before, Vogue Italia featured the works of Emma Summerton. This feature was called Black Allure and it was opposite of Tribute. It was 1920s vintage, elegant, moody and very high class. From the article in Vogue Italia: The black allure photographed by Emma Summerton...

I know, I know, I know, I know. It’s been a long time. I shouldn’t have left you…you can finish the rest. But I come bearing gifts! I’ve decided to share some of the great stuff I’ve been listening to this summer. The best part is all of this stuff is free. That’s right, the gods of independent artists and the internet have conspired to grace us with free, awesome aural goodness! Honey, I have been jammin,’ you hear me? In fact, I’m going to use that as the excuse for why I’ve been away for so long. ...

September 7, 2011 by Aamir Yaqub The mighty Mos Def is not gonna be Mos Def when the clock hits midnight on January 1st 2012. Speaking to Peter Rosenberg for MTV2′s Sucker Free programme across the pond, Mos (previous government name Dante Terrell Smith) explained that he will be leaving his current moniker behind in exchange for the name“Yasiin,” which is apparently his real first name. It’s all a bit confusing, and unfortunately I cannot see the video interview because MTV US obviously hate their British cousins, but the good peoples at Hip Hop DX included a brief transcript...

She is the soldier’s poet. Lyrically dramatic, AlleyCat is that earthSista that has strode across the globe and seen enough of its harshest truths to appreciate the precious beauty that Gaia bestows. And somewhere between the dichotomies of these realities she finds the verse; the lyric that tie it all together. AlleyCat artistically shares that lyric becoming the poet laureate for Mother Earth. Her broad vision brings new dimension to the voices in the Garden; a vision that is filled with proud and provocative interpretations for where we can go and what we can do. What better woman could...

As Autumn approaches and the weather changes, now is as a good time as ever to up the ante on your workout routine. And an intense treadmill regime (that is designed to burn 2000 calories) is a great place to start. Unquestionably the exercise treadmill constitutes a tremendous option for jogging in chilly winter or autumn days when running outside is not possible. By utilizing an exercise treadmill, you could flexibly workout when you have plenty of time (especially if you have one in your home.) An exercising fitness treadmill machine is incredibly suitable for cardio exercises. It allows you...

Tonesha Housen Since moving to the Atlanta area, I had been fascinated by the Sweet Auburn Festivals. It makes me feel good to see independent crafters and business owners out there showcasing their talents as well as the many people who walk through—eating, drinking, listening to music and dancing in the streets. The photo that makes me particularly happy is the image I made of the three generations of women holding hands—grandma in the middle and what her Tshirt reads, “Obama got Osama” To me, the image represents another historical, generational moment to be celebrated. I wish I knew...
